See Melo on your calendar
Melo publishes a private calendar feed of your family's tasks. Subscribe to it once and your calendar app keeps itself in sync.
What you get
- Every task from your family group, with its date and time, as an event in your calendar.
- Changes in Melo flow through automatically. Your calendar app refreshes subscribed calendars on its own schedule, usually within a few hours.
- The feed link is private to you. Anyone with the link can see your tasks, so treat it like a password.
Subscribe
- Open the feed screen. Open the menu (the ☰ button at the top left) and tap See Melo on your Calendar.
- Tap Subscribe in Calendar. The Calendar app opens and asks you to confirm the subscription. Tap Subscribe.
- Check it worked. In the Calendar app, tap Calendars at the bottom. You will see a new subscribed calendar named Melo. Turn it on if it is unchecked.
Want it on your Mac too? Subscribed calendars sync through iCloud. If yours does not appear, open Calendar on the Mac, choose File → New Calendar Subscription and paste the URL from the Copy URL button.
Google Calendar on a phone cannot add a subscription calendar directly, so the setup happens once on the web and then syncs to your phone.
- Copy the feed URL. Open the menu (the ☰ button at the top left), tap See Melo on your Calendar, then tap Copy URL.
- Open Google Calendar on a computer. Go to calendar.google.com in a browser and sign in with the same Google account you use on your phone.
- Add the calendar. On the left, next to Other calendars, click + and choose From URL. Paste the link and click Add calendar.
- Turn it on in the phone app. In Google Calendar on your phone, open the menu and make sure the new Melo calendar is checked. It can take a little while to appear the first time.
Using Samsung Calendar or Outlook instead? Samsung Calendar shows the Google calendars from your account, so the steps above are enough. In Outlook, go to Add calendar → Subscribe from web and paste the URL.
Good to know
- Subscribed calendars are read-only. To change a task, edit it in Melo and the calendar follows.
- Google Calendar refreshes subscribed calendars roughly once a day. Apple Calendar lets you choose the refresh interval under the calendar's settings.
- If you ever want to stop sharing, unsubscribe in your calendar app. Melo keeps working as before.
