Forward school emails to Melo
School newsletters bury the two things you need: the date and what you have to do. Forward them to your private Melo address and Melo pulls those out for you to review.
How it works
- Melo gives you a unique address ending in
@inbox.mentalloadai.com. It only delivers to your Melo account.
- Anything you forward there lands in Brain Dumps as proposed events, tasks and documents. Nothing is added to your family's plans until you accept it.
- Attachments such as PDFs and flyers are kept with the item, so the permission slip is one tap away when the event comes up.
Step 1: get your address
- Open the menu (the ☰ button at the top left) and tap Forward emails to Melo.
- Copy your address with the Copy button, or use Add to contacts so it autocompletes in your mail app.
Step 2: forward an email
The simplest way, and a good first test: open any school email in your mail app, tap Forward, and send it to your Melo address. Within a minute or two it appears in Brain Dumps, and the screen you copied the address from shows Last email received.
Step 3 (optional): forward automatically
If the school always writes from the same address or domain, set up a rule once so you never have to forward by hand.
Gmail
Gmail rules can only be created on a computer, not in the Gmail phone app.
- Register the forwarding address. In Gmail on the web, open Settings → See all settings → Forwarding and POP/IMAP, click Add a forwarding address and paste your Melo address. Gmail sends a confirmation to that address.
- Confirm it. The confirmation shows up in Melo's Brain Dumps as a new item. Open it and enter the code (or follow the link) back in Gmail.
- Create the rule. In the Gmail search box, click the filter icon, put the school's address or domain in From (for example
school.org), click Create filter, tick Forward it to, choose your Melo address and click Create filter.
Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo and others
Look for Rules in your provider's settings. Create a rule that matches the sender and uses the Forward to action with your Melo address. Most providers let you do this on the web; some also allow it in the phone app.
Good to know
- Melo only accepts mail sent to your address. Anyone who guesses the address cannot pretend to be the school: messages are checked for authentic sender signatures before they are trusted.
- If the address ever leaks or starts getting junk, tap Rotate address on the same screen. The old address stops working immediately and nothing already forwarded is lost. Remember to update your rule.
- Forwarding works from any email account, including a work address.
